Em setembro de 2004, o Professor de Estudos Bíblicos do Lithuania Christian College, Klaipeda, Lituânia, Kevin A. Wilson, publicou ensaio na revista online Bible and Interpretation sobre a tão debatida campanha do Faraó Shoshenq I (também grafado como Shishaq I) na Palestina no século X a.C. – supostamente após a morte de Salomão e a divisão de um “reino unido” em Israel e Judá – sob o título: The Campaign of Pharaoh Shoshenq I in Palestine. E, concluía assim seu texto:

“The beginning of this paper discussed the current debate over the dating of 10th century archaeological strata and the reliance on destruction levels left by Shoshenq. Although the current study does not decide the issue one way or the other, it does show that both sides are mistaken in searching for destruction layers left by the Egyptian campaign. As has been shown above, Shoshenq’s campaign was not as widespread as previously thought. Instead, it focused only on Jerusalem, and Jerusalem itself was not destroyed. This means that archaeologists will need to find another method for determining the date of 10th century strata. It also means that they will need to find other suspects for the destruction layers previously assigned to Shoshenq. This should not be difficult, however, since the 10th and early 9th centuries saw a great deal of fighting in Palestine, both between Judah and Israel, as well as between Israel and neighboring states. And, of course, the Israelites kingship changed hands several times through military coups during that period, so the causes of these destruction may have been internal. In any event, it is clear that the campaign of Shoshenq can play little role in the dating of 10th century archaeological strata”.

The thesis of this book is that the campaign by Pharaoh Shoshenq I into Palestine in 926 B.C.E. was aimed solely at the kingdom of Judah with the purpose of supporting Jeroboam in his bid to rule Israel as a separate nation. The evidence for this campaign comes from the Hebrew Bible (1 Kgs 14:25-28; 2 Chr 12:1-12), a triumphal relief of Shoshenq at Karnak, and a fragment of a stele at Megiddo. Prior studies have attempted to reconstruct the route of the Egyptian army’s march through studies of the topographical list that accompanies the triumphal relief of Shoshenq. By contrast, Kevin Wilson examines several major examples of triumphal reliefs erected by pharaohs of the New Kingdom in order to understand the genre as a whole. After a survey of other Egyptian texts considered pertinent to the campaign, the rest of this study is devoted to an analysis of the biblical texts that record the attack. The data gleaned from these analyses are then used to reconstruct the aim and purpose of the campaign. The reconstruction offered suggests that Shoshenq made his attack as part of a concerted effort to bring disunity to the region through the support of Jeroboam, whom he had harbored as a political refugee from Solomon. This foreign policy led to Egypt’s position vis-a-vis the southern Levant being greatly improved. It removed a powerful kingdom that could have been a threat to Egypt, left the nations of Palestine fighting among themselves, and provided Shoshenq with a vassal state in the region.

A Bibliografia Bíblica Latino-Americana

Um projeto a serviço da interpretação bíblica

Iniciada em 1988 pelo Prof. Milton Schwantes (in memoriam), como parte do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Religião da Universidade Metodista de São Paulo, a Bibliografia Bíblica Latino-Americana é um projeto que está ligado à área de Literatura e Religião no Mundo Bíblico. Tem como objetivo incentivar a pesquisa bíblica, facilitando o acesso ao material produzido na América Latina e no Caribe.

A Bibliografia Bíblica Latino-Americana surgiu em tempos que a Bíblia estava sendo descoberta, em meio às comunidades cristãs da América Latina e do Caribe, como fonte inspiradora de um novo jeito de ser igreja, como novo modo de formular religião à luz das experiências cotidianas e políticas.

Como bem nos ensinava o Prof. Milton Schwantes, “a Bíblia é de todos” e, embora não seja um livro novo, o uso que dela se faz é sempre inovador. Basta olhar para a grande quantia de edições da Bíblia e para o significativo número de novas traduções e já se percebe quão relevante a Escritura vem se tornando no cristianismo latino-americano e caribenho. Além disso, torna-se cada vez mais crescente a interpretação destes textos sagrados em que o nosso contexto ganha espaço e relevância interpretativa. Começa-se a conectar, com destaque, o sentido de seus textos às experiências da vida latino-americana. E, visando registrar na história este e outros fenômenos religiosos, relacionados à Bíblia, é que foi idealizada a Bibliografia Bíblica Latino-Americana.

Após um período de invernia, o projeto foi retomado em 2013 e é hoje coordenado pelo Prof. José Ademar Kaefer, que ocupa a cadeira do Prof. Milton Schwantes. O trabalho, contudo, é realizado em equipe com os alunos e as alunas de Bíblia do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Religião (UMESP) e da Faculdade de Teologia (FaTeo). É um trabalho feito em mutirão, no pleno sentido da palavra.

O projeto publicou 8 volumes, que reúnem as publicações bíblicas referentes a 1988 até 1995. Estas publicações também estão alocadas na internet e podem ser facilmente encontradas em nosso acervo bibliográfico. Os dados referentes aos anos de 1996 até 2012 só podem ser encontrados no presente site. As publicações de 2013 em diante estão em vias de catalogação, mas boa parte você também já pode acessar aqui.

Um exemplar de parte do material citado encontra-se disponível na Biblioteca Ecumênica da Universidade Metodista de São Paulo, campus Rudge Ramos.

Segunda edição revista e aumentada de importante texto, no qual Nickelsburg, professor emérito de religião da Universidade de Iowa, USA – onde lecionou por mais de 30 anos – nos introduz no mundo da literatura apócrifa, pseudepígrafa, Manuscritos do Mar Morto, obras de Flávio Josefo e Fílon de Alexandria. A primeira edição foi publicada em 1981.

In this fully revised and expanded edition, Nickelsburg introduces the reader to the broad range of Jewish literature that is not part of either the Bible or the standard rabbinic works. This includes especially the Apocrypha (such as 1 Maccabees), the Pseudepigrapha (such as 1 Enoch), the Dead Sea Scrolls, the works of Josephus, and the works of Philo.

A Inscrição de Tel Dan, descoberta em 1993, continua sendo debatida. Dia sim, dia não, o tema está presente nas listas de discussão e nos biblioblogs, como aconteceu em setembro passado.

A tese de doutorado de George Athas, defendida em 1999 e publicada em 2003, com o título de The Tel Dan Inscription: A Reappraisal and a New Interpretation, será relançada em 2006.

O livro de Athas aborda o tema em sete etapas: 1. uma análise do contexto arqueológico; 2. um estudo do estilo de escrita da inscrição; 3. uma análise epigráfica do texto para discutir leituras controvertidas; 4. uma análise paleográfica dos caracteres para datar o texto; 5. uma discussão da posição em que foram dispostos os fragmentos em relação com sua provável posição original; 6. um estudo da gramática e do vocabulário do texto para clarear sua interpretação e possível tradução; 7. um comentário histórico que procura situar o texto no seu contexto histórico original.
