Que tipo de usuário de tecnologia é você?

Os norte-americanos estão sempre procurando classificar as pessoas em sua relação com a tecnologia. Respondi a umas tantas e quantas perguntas feitas em um teste no site Pew Internet e fui rotulado:

Ecopicumã

Ecopicumã? Ecofuligem? Ecofumaça? Eco!

Eco, do grego ékhô, oûs ‘ruído, som, eco’, pelo latim echo, us, tem muitos significados, grande parte deles ligados ao som, como explica o Dicionário Eletrônico Houaiss da língua portuguesa, versão 1.0, dezembro de 2001, verbete “eco”

Mas, em terras e serras mineiras, sempre usávamos a palavra “eco”, quando crianças, para manifestar nojo, repugnância, aversão, asco, antipatia… Enfim, rejeição diante de algo nojento, de origem, forma ou gosto ruim.

É esse eco “mineiro” que uso, quando sinto e vejo o “presente” que nos dão aqueles que queimam, por aqui, nestes dias, os canaviais nas proximidades das cidades, nos enchendo de fuligem, fumaça, ar ruim, doenças respiratórias, o escambau.

Até quando vamos continuar a entupir nossos pulmões com picumã? Picumã? Do tupi apeku’mã, ‘fuligem’. Já viu uma chaminé com picumã? Pois é.

E toda essa fumaça de queimadas que envenena o ar da região de Ribeirão Preto deve ser para “comemorar” o Dia Mundial do Meio Ambiente 2009, celebrado em 5 de junho. Eco!

Para os interessados, acrescento que ecologia vem do francês écologie (1910) ‘ecologia’, empréstimo do alemão Ökologie, termo forjado, em 1866, por E. H. Haeckel (1834-1919, zoologista e biólogo alemão), do grego oîkos, on ‘casa’ + grego lógos, ou ‘linguagem’. O empréstimo do francês ao alemão se deu provavelmente pelo inglês oecology (1873), segundo o já citado Dicionário Eletrônico Houaiss da língua portuguesa, versão 1.0, dezembro de 2001, verbete “ecologia”. Portanto, de oîkos, ‘casa’ e não de eco!

O avião

(…) todos os acidentes com aviões repercutem de maneira especial em nosso subconsciente. Porque o avião é o símbolo de um sonho acalentado desde os primórdios da humanidade, e acolhido no íntimo de cada pessoa humana. O sonho de voar, e superar os limites humanos. Desde meninos, temos inveja dos pássaros, e sonhamos também nós alçar vôo. Qual a criança que já não se imaginou voando, de braços abertos, pairando livre no ar, vencendo a atração da gravidade? Cada desastre de avião é uma frustração deste sonho acalentado por todos. Uma derrota de nossa utopia de liberdade e de transcendência. Por isto, os desastres de avião repercutem mais do que os outros. Eles são uma afronta à aspiração mais simbólica e mais arrojada de nossa condição humana: superar os condicionamentos físicos, que cerceiam nosso sonho de infinitude…
